Gaza: The UN is alarmed by the humanitarian situation in the Palestinian enclave

Israel continues to block the entry of humanitarian aid in Gaza, closing all passages to the small Palestinian territory. The country also resumed its military operations on March 18, after two months of truce.

The humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip is “probably the worst since the beginning of the war” between Israel and Hamas, warned the UN Humanitarian Office (Ocha) in a statement on Monday, April 14.

“The humanitarian situation is probably the worst since the beginning of hostilities 18 months ago,” said Ocha, noting that the last authorized supply passages dated a month and a half, “the longest interruption to date.”

Israel blocked on March 2 the entry of humanitarian aid in Gaza, closing all the passages to the small Palestinian territory, then resumed its military operations on March 18, after two months of truce.

“The urgent need for a high fire”

Humanitarian aid has become “the first source of income” by Hamas to Gaza, had justified the Minister of Israeli Affairs Gideón Saar.

“Due to the closure of the crossing points, reinforced by the restrictions within Gaza, the shortage of supplies forced the authorities to ration and reduce deliveries,” Ocha said.

During a telephone bag, the president of the Palestinian authority Mahmoud Abbas and Emmanuel Macron insisted on “the urgent need for a high fire” in Gaza and “the acceleration of the delivery of humanitarian aid”, according to the official Palestinian news agency Wafa.

At least 50,983 dead in Gaza

She led to the death of 1,218 people on the Israeli side, mostly civilians, according to an AFP count based on official figures. Of 251 people retired, 58 are still retained in Gaza, including 34 dead, according to the Army.

The Hamas Ministry of Health announced on Monday that at least 1,613 Palestinians had been killed since March 18, which led to 50,983 the number of deaths in Gaza from the beginning, 18 months ago, of the Israeli response.

The previous day, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had judged that Emmanuel Macron made a “serious mistake” by promoting the idea of ​​a Palestinian state, whose “the only aspiration is the destruction of Israel.”
