Oil tanker hit by drone bomb off the coast of Oman

An oil tanker associated with an Israeli billionaire was hit by a drone carrying a bomb off the coast of Oman, a Middle East-based defense official said on Wednesday.

The attack took place late Tuesday off the coast of Oman, the defense official told the Associated Press (AP) news agency, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss the case publicly.

“We are aware of the incident and it is currently under investigation,” UK Commercial Shipping Operations, a British military organization in the region that monitors shipping, told the AP.

The defense official identified the attacked vessel as the Liberian-flagged oil tanker Pacific Zircon.

This tanker is operated by Singapore-based Eastern Pacific Shipping, which is a company owned by Israeli billionaire Idan Ofer.
