To fight Russia, in addition to the assault units, Ukrainian snipers mobilize. In general, these men approach Russian lines as much as possible. BFMTV was able to attend the kyiv suburbs of the training of an elite shooting unit, one of the most secret of the Ukrainian army.
Omega unit
Camoufled, they train to stay on the ground lying for hours, ready to tear down the enemy. “We can remain in position for 2 hours, sometimes 2 or 3 days,” says a sniper of the Special Forces of Omega. “Before leaving, we stop eating so as not to want to go to the bathroom. We also take medications that block all our wishes,” explains what “Batman” is nicknamed.
When they are on the front line, snipers are just a few tens of meters from the Russian troops. “I observe everything: the position of the sun, if there is wind or rain, so that the shooter can adjust his shot,” explains Vngeyaz, another shooter.
“21 Russians eliminated in a single mission”
From their viewfinder, snipers can reach enemies located more than 1,200 meters. Batman has already killed hundreds of Russians, so much that he stopped counting.
“When I eliminate them, I feel pleasure, it makes an enemy less in our territory. It is a job like any other for me,” he says. “Our record is 21 Russians eliminated in a single mission.”
The man returned from his last mission in Donbass a few weeks ago. According to him, the danger on the forehead has intensified even more. “The difficulty is that now the Russians use fiber optic drones, and our Jammers cannot neutralize them.”
This sniper will soon go to the east of the country. With more than 100 missions in his credit since the beginning of the war, he believes that it is a miracle if he is still alive.
