Syria: United States announced half of its military workforce and “important” greeting not against Daesh

Currently, around 2,000 American soldiers unfold in Syria to fight different jihadist groups.

The United States Ministry of Defense announced this Friday, April 18, the next withdrawal of about a thousand of its Syrian soldiers on Friday, April 18 of the country to fight jihadists in the country.

The United States has had a military presence in Syria for years, especially within the framework of the International Coalition against the Islamic State Group (IS). IS was defeated in 2019, but jihadist cells remained active.

“Syria is a disaster,” Trump said

Friday’s announcement must “recover the US presence in Syria to less than a thousand soldiers in the least,” said Sean Parnell, Pentagon spokesman, in a statement.

“This consolidation demonstrates the important steps we have made to degrade the attraction and operational capabilities of the Islamic State, in the region and in the world,” he said, more generally evoking “the success of the United States against is.”

Donald Trump, who came to power in Washington on January 20, has been skeptical about the military presence in Syria, and the fall at the end of December in Bashar al-Assad, replaced to the head of the country by a coalition led by Islamists, has not changed the situation.

“Syria is a disaster, but it is not our friend, (…) This is not our fight,” Donald Trump wrote in December during the offensive that had finished fifty years of reign without sharing for the Clan Assad.

The acquisition of complete sections of Syria and Iraq for 2014 caused the intervention of an international coalition led by the United States directed especially to support, by the air, the units of the Iraqi army and the Kurds that fought are on the ground.

But Washington also deployed thousands of its soldiers to support these local troops and carry out their own military operations.

After the victory against IS, declared in 2017 in Iraq and 2019 in Syria, an American military presence remained there to attack the remaining cells of jihadist groups.
