Fire in Australia: 750 Koalas demolished by helicopter snipers

Hundreds of Koalas were sacrificed after a decision of the Australian authorities in a national park. The Prime Minister of the State of Victoria, Jacinta Allan, defends a measure of clemency towards animals “in great anguish”.

Koalas killed from the air. In an article published by our SkyNews Australia colleagues, seen by Le Parisien, it is specified that up to 750 of these mammals have been killed by helicopters by elite shooters.

It is more precisely in the Victoria region, in Budj Bim National Park, that small animals have been sacrificed in recent days. A campaign authorized by the local government, after a large fire that destroyed 2,000 hectares of Bush in March.

This operation backed by the authorities caused strong political reactions in the country. But officials cited by local media ensure that this measure makes possible to shorten the suffering of injured, dehydrated or hungry koalas. This was explained by the Prime Minister of the State of Victoria, Jacinta Allan.

The political leader says that the murdered animals were “in great anguish” and that the decision had been subject to “in -depth evaluations.”

“There is no way of knowing if a koala has been injured by a helicopter”

Doubts of justifications, according to Jess Robertson, president of the Koala Alliance, a fauna defense association. “There is no way of knowing if a Koala has been injured by a helicopter,” he brought Skynews Australia.

Another opponent of the project is the deputy Georgie Purcell, of the local animalist party. He worries that the shooters attacked the Koala mothers who have “little ones in their pocket,” as Herald Sun told his pocket.

Would the most effective method rather avoid the appearance of devastating bushes as much as possible?

Rolf Schlagloth, a researcher at the University of CQ of Australia, believes that it is not possible to “eliminate them completely”, but that the preservation of the natural habitats of these species must be taken into account in a global approach.
