“This case refers to the efforts made by the Government to use the freezing of federal subsidies as a means to make control of academic decisions in Harvard,” said the university in a judicial document.
“The acts of the government invade not only in the first amendment (of the Constitution that guarantees freedom of expression, note of the editor) but also federal laws and regulations”, can be read in this document, which qualifies the “arbitrary” decision of the government.
Harvard’s position was welcomed by many teachers and students as a rare resistance sign, while the University of Columbia in New York agreed to initiate reforms under the pressure of the Republican administration.
