United States: former Mythomaniac Eleced George Santos sentenced to seven years in prison

The American justice condemned Republican George Santos, 36, expelled from the House of Representatives at the end of 2023, seven years in prison for “fraud” and “identity theft” on Friday, April 25.

The former elected official in the American Congress, George Santos, who has become a celebrity for his lies and their financial crimes, was sentenced to more than seven years in prison (87 months) by the United States on Friday, April 25.

Chosen in 2022 in the state of New York, then caught in justice, the 36 -year -old Republican finally declared himself guilty of “fraud” and “aggravated identity theft.” He was accused of having illegally used personal identities and donor financial data to his campaign to steal funds.

The extravagant thirty -many was also involved for having used campaign funds to pay personal debts and buy luxury products, especially the Hermès brand.

Federal Judge Joanna Seybert followed the requests of prosecutors on Friday, who claimed seven years and three months in prison.

He considered himself a “scapegoat”

They had emphasized that despite their regrets expressed during their audience to declare himself guilty, George Santos continued to publish messages on social networks where he described as “scapegoat” and accused the justice of having a lighter hand with drug traffickers, or a “pedophile” clique.

Before being caught in justice, George Santos had become famous when he revealed the New York Times, shortly after his choice to Congress, a series of lies in his CV and his campaign messages.

Little known locally, he had molded his image in lies or exaggerations about his education, his religion, his professional experience or his inheritance.

Face oriented by the father crossed by great glasses, full of shameless and very active in the networks, he presented himself as the son of Brazilian immigrants and grandson of survivors of the Holocaust, in search of the “American dream.”

But several mentions of his biography had disappeared after the first revelations of the New York Times, such as his diploma in Baruch College University in New York, or his professional experiences in Banks or Goldman Sachs of Citigroup.

Expelled from the House of Representatives

This romantic story, between fiction and reality, had earned him the comparison with the “talented Mr. Ripley” OA “Gatsby The Magnificent”, but said he was a victim of political persecution and that he had remained deaf to require the resignation.

His escapes had stopped entertaining the American Congress, especially after the publication of a report from the Ethics Commission of the House of Representatives that accused him of “seriously discredited” to the institution.

The report revealed that the elected official had used the diverted money for purchases in the Ferragamo luxury store, in a casino, for cosmetic treatments in “Botox” and on the Onlyfan platform, in which users can share their sexual videos and photos.

In December 2023, one hundred Republicans and more than 200 Democrats had voted to fire and expel him from the House of Representatives.
