He nicknamed the “Master of Mutilation.” In Maryland, a man is accused of having used social networks to order secessionist combatants in Cameroon to mutilate and kill people in the country, the office of the prosecutor of this US state announced on Friday, April 25 in a statement.
“A Federal Grand Jury accused Eric Tano Tano Tataw, 38, from Gaithersburg, Maryland. This Cameroonian citizen, also known as ‘Garri Master’, is accused of conspiring to provide material support for armed separatist groups in Cameroon and have pronounced threats of injuries or kidnap Cameroonians,” writes the authorities.
According to these officials, several armed and violent secessionist groups in the Northwest and Southwest regions of Cameroon are fighting to form a new country called “Ambazonia.” They are often called “amba boys.”
“These armed separatist groups have tried to obtain secession not only attacking the Cameroonian army, but also intentionally attacking the Camerunian civilian population to force and intimidate the government to authorize the secession of these regions,” said the press release.
“Tataw and his accomplices (which are not appointed, note of the editor) orchestrated and financed a Machiavellian plan for a foreign government.
Eric Tano Tataw would personally published hundreds of messages on Facebook, YouTube and Twitter asking for “attacks against Cameronian civilians”, who seek to raise funds to assemble the children of AMBA and “threatening” people suspected of working for the government or collaborating with him. “These messages were regularly consulted by tens of thousands of people.
“AK National Campaign”
Federal prosecutors explained that the suspect lived in Maryland when he published online directives asking the secessionists to reduce the members, a practice that he called “Gorring,” he emphasizes USA today. He used the expression “Little Garri” to designate the elimination of fingers or other small appendices, and the expression “Grand Gri”, with respect to the uproot of large members or murders.
“Already in April 2018, Tataw conspired to provide support and material resources, in particular, money, weapons and personal, in Amba Boys in Cameroon, and requested the murder, elimination and mutilation of the Camerunese civilians,” also specifies the judicial source. Firearms, ammunition, explosives are mentioned in particular.
“A fundraising campaign, called ‘AK National Campaign, was designed to equip each A AMBA child in Cameroon with an AK-47 rifle. From September 2018 to December 2020, Tataw and its accomplices collected more than $ 110,000,” added Maryland’s prosecutors.
“Tataw has also repeatedly claimed the responsibility of the murders, kidnappings and mutilations of civilians committed by AMBA’s children in relation to the cause of the separatists,” they continue.
If it is convicted, Eric Tano Tataw faces a maximum sentence of 15 years in prison for the accusation of “material support” and five years in prison for each position of “threatening communication destined to hurt or kidnap.”
