Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Friday, April 25 at Donald Trump’s emissary, Steve Witkoff, during his interview, will be ready to negotiate the result of the conflict in Ukraine “without any prerequisite,” Kremlin spokesman said on Saturday.
“Vladimir Putin reaffirmed that the Russian party was ready to resume the negotiation process with Ukraine without any prerequisite,” said Dmitri Peskov, cited by Russian press agencies.
However, the Russian President has regularly repeated his maximalist requirements on Ukraine: the control of the five Ukrainian regions of which Moscow affirms annexation, the resignation of Ukraine to join NATO and its demilitarization.
“Bring the positions”
In more general terms, Vladimir Putin, who presents the conflict in Ukraine as a “hybrid war” supposedly carried out by NATO against Russia, requires a security architecture review in Europe, in particular with respect to the positioning of NATO forces currently based on Russian borders.
The Kremlin called “constructive and very useful” these new discussions between mm. Putin and Peskov, exchanges that will be used to “bring positions to Moscow and Washington in several subjects, first, the Ukrainian archive.
Vladimir Putin ordered his army on February 24, 2022 to attack Ukraine, a conflict that led just over three years of thousands of thousands of people, civilians and military. Russia still occupies almost 20% of the Ukrainian territory.
