War in Ukraine: Moscow says that at least 288 civilians died during the Ukrainian offensive in the Koursk region

The interim governor of the Koursk region, Alexandre Khinchtein, said Russian investigators continued “discovering acts of torture and civil executions” in the Russian territories recently assumed in the Ukrainian army.

At least 288 civilians were killed and hundreds injured in the Russian region of Koursk since the Ukrainians caused an offensive in August 2024, regional authorities said on Wednesday, April 30.

The Ukrainian forces had attacked this border area by surprise, taking about 1,400 square kilometers. For its part, the Russian army has led a large large -scale offensive since 2022 in Ukraine, which occupies almost 20% of the territory.

After months of struggle, Russia said last weekend that the Koursk region has published completely. President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Ukrainian forces were looking for operations there.

“Since August (2024), 791 people have undergone bodily damage in the Koursk region, 288 of which died and 430 have been hospitalized,” on Wednesday, its governor, Alexandre Khinsteïn.

“These terrible figures are, unfortunately! Not exhaustive: all dead civilians have not yet been removed from border areas,” he added.

He said that Russian researchers continued to “discover acts of torture and execution of civilians” in the recently assumed Russian territories of the Ukrainian army.

After months of silence, Russia also recognized last weekend that a contingent of North Korean soldiers had participated in the fights against Ukrainian troops in the Koursk region.

President Vladimir Putin thanked his North Korean counterpart Kim Jong One for “the feat” of his soldiers on Monday.
