War in Ukraine: duration, conditions … what we know about the high fire proposed by Kyiv and its allies

Gathered in kyiv this Saturday, May 10, Volodymyr Zelensky and its main European partners agreed to offer Russia a high full and unconditional fire “of 30 days.

Ukraine and its European allies, with the support of the United States, published a united front this Saturday, May 10 to formulate a 30 -day truce proposal to Russia. From kyiv, and together with Volodymyr Zelensky, Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and the British and Poles Prime Ministers Keir Starmer and Donald Tusk have detailed the offer of high fire to which Moscow must respond now.

• A complete “complete” cessation of 30 days

The truce offered by Ukraine and its allies consists of a high fire that lasts 30 days that must begin from Monday. As Ukraine Foreign Minister Andriï Sybiga said for the first time, this truce would be “complete”, that is, it would be in force “on earth” and “in the air and in the sea.”

Therefore, Russia of Vladimir Putin has less than 48 hours to respond favorably or not to this proposal to cease fire, thought as a preamble for negotiations to conclude a “lasting peace.”

Without responding directly to this ultimatum, the Kremlin denounced the attitude of “confrontation” of Europeans to Russia. “We listen to contradictory statements by Europe. They usually focus on confrontation instead of attempts to resurrect our relations in one way or another,” lamented the spokesman for the Russian presidency, Dmitri Peskov.

• A “unconditional” truce

This is the other adjective attached to the proposal to cease the fire that Kyiv and its allies: it must be “unconditional.” As Emmanuel Macron explained during the joint press conference with Volodymyr Zelensky and the other European leaders present in kyiv, “everything that will disturb the game by putting conditions (in the truce) will somehow will be a dilatory maneuver to not want peace.”

“Then all conditions for lasting peace will be discussed (…) but it is not a prerequisite for the high fire,” added the President of the Republic.

A vision of things that he does not share for the Kremlin. In recent weeks, Moscow has insisted on the fact that any high fire should be preceded by a series of commitments, the suspension of Western arms deliveries in kyiv was not the slightest.

Dmitri Peskov maintained this line in a recent interview with the American Canal ABC. According to him, not stopping the delivery of Western weapons would be equivalent to giving “an advantage for Ukraine” at the time “Russian troops advance in a guarantee” on the front.

• An “absolute unit” between Kyiv, Europe and Washington

Beyond the proposal of truce as such, the fact that emanates from the western countries that show their unit is equally remarkable. The British prime minister, Keir Starmer, told reporters: “The position we have achieved today is an absolute unit among a complete series of countries around the world, including the United States.”

It is no coincidence that Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk or Emmanuel Macron publish in his X account, a photo that shows European leaders in kyiv on the phone with Donald Trump. The call turned out to be “fruitful,” said Andriï Sybiga.

On Thursday, and although Washington had threatened the negotiations for several weeks for several weeks due to lack of agreement between the two fields, Donald Trump had pressed Vladimir Putin by calling him to accept a “high unconditional high of 30 days.”

• “massive” sanctions in case of breach of the truce

What will happen if Moscow accepts the proposal of Alto El Fuego? And in the event that Russia rejects it? In the first case, the control of respect for the truce would be “mainly guaranteed by the United States of America,” surveillance to which “all Europeans will contribute,” said Emmanuel Macron.

On the other hand, if Russia should reject the fire or that accepted it and then violate it, the Europeans and the Americans agreed to inflict Russia with “mass” and “coordinated” sanctions, warned the French president.
