They had drifting in the Pacific Ocean for almost two months. Missing cover since mid -March, five fishermen arrived this Saturday, May 10 at a port of the Galapagos Islands, the Ecuadorian Navy announced in X. As Associated Press says, these three Peruvians and two Colombians were found on Wednesday by Aldo, an Ecuadorian tuna.
These men from 31 to 52 years arrived on Saturday morning at the base of San Cristóbal and their health state was stable, according to the Ecuadorian Navy. The latter said it was necessary to make sure that unfortunate fishermen can return to their respective countries.
For the five men, the fishing became a nightmare when the alternator of his boat broke. They had taken the sea two days before from the Bay of Pucusana, south of the Peruvian capital Lima.
Rainwater and seawater
Due to this breakdown, the fishermen were deprived of electricity and it was impossible for them to use navigation and communication instruments, said Associated Press to the Captain María frigate. “They didn’t have an incoming or lighting,” he said.
To survive for 55 days in these conditions, these deriva men had to solve rainwater or seawater or use the engine oxidized. “When a fish passed, they grabbed him and wounded him to eat it,” added Maria Fares.
The history of these five fishermen echoes that of Maximo Napa, a 61 -year -old Peruvian fisherman. Last March, he found himself outside the port of Chimbote, in northern Peru, after having derived for 95 days. According to his history given to local media, he had survived feeding on cockroaches, birds and a turtle.
