The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, dismissed the commander of the Russian army land forces, Oleg Salioukov, according to a decree published this Thursday, May 15 by the Kremlin, before the direct negotiations expected with the Ukrainians in Istanbul.
Oleg Salioukov is appointed assistant secretary of the Russian Security Council, an important advisory agency that meets regularly in Vladimir Putin, and “it is discharged from its current functions”, you can read in this decree. The secretary of this Security Council is former Defense Minister Sergei Choigou, who was appointed there last year.

After replacing the ministry with a training economist, Andrei Beloussov, several generals or defense officials had been arrested for accusations of corruption, in what was perceived as a purge.
The Kremlin had denied, on the other hand, any purges campaign, ensuring that it was a conventional anti -corruption operation, the Russian defense sector was undermined by scandals for many years.
Last week, Oleg Salioukov had ordered the great military parade of May 9 in the Red Square, marking the 80th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany.
Oleg Salioukov was the commander of the Russian land forces since 2014. Thus supervised military intervention in the war in Syria and the great scale offensive against Ukraine. Before that, he held the position of assistant personnel for four years.
