A member of the security forces of the new Syrian power and three jihadists were killed on Saturday, May 17 during an operation against a Daesh terrorist group cell in Aleppo, the second city of Syria, authorities said.
Four members of the cell were arrested, said a statement from the Ministry of Interior on Telegram, before adding later than three others had been killed in the operation.
Explosive vests
“As part of the continuous efforts to combat terrorism, Aleppo’s Security Directorate (North), in coordination with general information, directed an assault on a cache where a Daesh cell was rooted,” he said.
“During the clashes, a member of the security forces was killed,” said the ministry, adding that explosive devices, an explosive vest and several security forces were found on the site.
Since the fall of President Bashar al-Assad on December 8, Daesh’s attacks have decreased in the areas controlled by the new Islamist authorities.
If Daesh was defeated in Syria in 2019 by the Kurdish forces with the support of an international coalition, it maintains cells that continue to attack the Kurdish forces in the northeast of Syria.
The new Syrian president, Ahmed al-Chareh, is a former jihadist leader of an Al-Qaeda branch in Iraq opposed to Daesh.
