A ship from the Mexican Navy school hit the Brooklyn bridge in New York on Saturday, May 17, killing two people and about twenty injured while the three masts of the sailboat sank against the emblematic structure.
“Early at night, the great Cuauhtemoc ship of the Mexican Navy lost power and hit the Brooklyn bridge,” said the mayor of the city, Eric Adams, in X, stating that of the 277 people on board, 19 had been injured, two years a critical state, while “two others unfortunately died of their wounds.”
No one on board “has fallen into the water, which means that it was not necessary to activate rescue operations,” added the Navy in a press release.
A 48.2 meters high ship
The passersby, who took advantage of a spring night on the edge of the East River, saw with astonishment the Cuauhtémoc, are heading to all the candles deployed and light lights to the bridge, without the height allowing the passage of their mats.
The American media indicated that the ship had been built in 1982 and was present in numerous meetings of sailboats worldwide, whose height reached 48.2 meters.
