A Russian strike against the kyiv region killed a woman and made three wounds, the Ukrainian authorities said on Sunday, May 18, on the eve of an appeal announced by Donald Trump with Vladimir Putin to try to end the conflict.
“A woman died of her wounds after an enemy attack in the Oboukhiv district,” a town south of the Ukrainian capital, the head of the Regional Military Administration on Telegram, told Telegram.
He reported three hospitalized injured, including a four -year -old boy. The Ukrainian authorities had previously caused an air alert for drones in kyiv and its surroundings.
While the first peace conversations between Ukrainians and Russians since 2022 took place on Friday in Istanbul, the two countries did not reach a truce agreement.
A call planned with Donald Trump on Monday
Donald Trump said on Saturday, he said he would talk on Monday, May 19 to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to discuss the end of the war, before speaking with the Ukrainian Volodymyry Zelensky and several members of state members.
Objective of the call between the two heads of state: “End the bloodbath,” said the US president on his social social platform. As is, as evidenced by the Istanbul meeting, which lasted less than two hours, the positions remain irreconcilable.
The Kremlin maintains maximalist statements: that Ukraine renounces to join NATO, abandons four of its regions partially controlled by Russia, in addition to Crimea attached in 2014, and that Western weapons stop delivering. For its part, Ukraine firmly rejects these requirements, asking that the Russian army, which still occupies almost 20% of its territory, retires from it.
