The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, accused Russia on Tuesday 20 on Tuesday, saving discussions for a high fire to “continue” his invasion of Ukraine, the day after a call between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump without tangible results.
This two-hour telephone interview among Russian and American leaders, three days after the first Russian-Ukrainian peace conversations since 2022, has not led to the announcement of a high fire, however, claimed by kyiv and Europeans with the support of Americans.
Despite the absence of important advances, Donald Trump, who pushes Russia and Ukraine to silence weapons, praised that the two belligerents were going to “start immediately with negotiations in sight” of a truce.
No calendar
As is, no calendar has been announced and there is no guarantee that Moscow and kyiv have an agreement, when the Russian army continues its impulse in the east Ukrainian against kyiv’s troops in difficulty.
“It is obvious that Russia is trying to save time to continue its war and occupation,” said Volodymyr Zelensky on Tuesday, describing Moscow’s conditions as “unrealistic.”
On Friday, the Russian and Ukrainian delegations, united under Turkish mediation in Istanbul, had indicated that each part “would present” their “vision” of a possible truce soon, in the words of the Russian negotiator, Vladimir Medinski.
But it is obvious that two approaches are opposed: Kyiv requests a high “unconditional” fire of 30 days to allow peace discussions, while Moscow begins from the beginning that negotiations must be “simultaneously” to fighting, according to Vladimir Medinski.
The main European capitals, the faithful supporters of kyiv, threaten Russia with “massive” sanctions for lack of fire, but Vladimir Putin rejects this request, considering that this would give time to the Ukrainian army to replace thanks to Western military aid.
