Washington shooting: the suspect accused of “murder of foreign officials”

The accusation against the suspect could make him incur the death penalty.

The man suspected of having killed two employees of the Israel Embassy near a Jewish museum in Washington was accused this Thursday, May 22 for murders, according to judicial documents.

Elias Rodríguez, 30, was also accused of “murder of foreign officials.”

According to the accusation document consulted by AFP, the researchers were able to consult the museum’s video surveillance images after the shooting on Wednesday night.

According to these images, the suspect met his victims at a crosswalk in the street in front of the museum, turned around, threw a weapon that he had in his belt and threw them several times in the back.

“Once the victims have fallen to the ground, the video shows Mr. Rodríguez approaching, leaning on them with his tense arm and shooting again,” said the accusation document.

The researchers found the location of the crime in a total of 21 plugs in a new millimeter caliber pistol.

The suspect runs the risk of the death penalty

Originally from Chicago, Elias Rodríguez landed in Washington on Tuesday, apparently to participate in a conference for his work. He had hid his weapon in his luggage in the winery, a weapon legally bought his weapon on March 6, 2020 in Illinois.

The suspect, who may incur the death penalty or life imprisonment, will be presented to a judge for a first hearing on June 18.
