Haribo proceeded, this Thursday, May 29, to withdraw the sweets of his brand “Happy Cola Fizz” in the Netherlands after the discovery of cannabis in certain packages.
Dutch food and consumer security products (NVWA) said that only three bags of sweets “Happy Cola Fizz” were worried about the detection of such pollution, but that a generalized removal of the range had been thrown as caution.
“There are outsider sachets that could contain sweets that probably cause health problems such as dizziness when they consume,” Nvwa said in a statement.
Children and adults who have become ill
“Cannabis was found in [bonbons en forme de] Cola in question bottles, “said Nvwa Saiaida Ahyad spokesman.
The police warned the NVWA after several people, children and adults, having eaten this type of sweets became ill.
Saida Ahyad said the police were now investigating how cannabis had been able to find sweets. “After consulting with NVWA and, as usual in these types of situations, Haribo has issued a security warning,” he added, urging not to consume these sweets.
“An incident taken very seriously”
For its part, Patrick Tax, Marketing Vice President of the German company, said that the withdrawal of the product referred to “a limited number of cases” and only a type of product in the east of the country.
“The security of our consumers is our absolute priority and Haribo takes this incident very seriously,” he said in an AFP statement.
“This is a question under investigation and we are working closely with the Dutch authorities to support their research and establish the facts that led to pollution,” he added.
