A ship of the flotilla coalition for freedom “must go in the next few minutes” to Gaza to provide humanitarian aid, an Italian political leader in the AFP said to the middle of the day.
The ship must start from the port of Catania, Sicily, and the crew is composed of a dozen people, including Greta Thunberg, the Swedish environmental activist, said Marco Grimaldi, deputy director of the deputies of Alleanza Verdi Sinistra (AVS), a left party that supported the operation from a logistical and administrative point of view. MEP Rima Hassan is also on board.
“We have to keep our eyes on our goal, press governments and institutions, demand the end of genocide and occupation in Palestine,” said Greta Thunberg in a video along with the rebel Eurodiputa Rima Hassan, this Sunday, June 1.
“The only way to guarantee the success of this mission, but also our security is citizen mobilization, we have you to share the initiative but also to follow the cross,” French politics asked.
“The ship carries the flag of public opinion”
The flotilla coalition for freedom, founded in 2010, is a non -violent international movement of solidarity with the Palestinians, with a humanitarian dimension and a political defense against the blockade of Gaza.
“The ship carries the flag of public opinion, we try to make even more noise” around the humanitarian situation in Gaza, added Marco Grimaldi. The “Madleen” is a small ship, a sailboat, and takes “fruit juices, milk, rice, links, protein bars offered by hundreds of citizens of Catania,” wrote journalist Andrea Legni, who went up on board.
The mission aims to meet “several objectives: denounce the humanitarian block and current genocide, the impunity that benefits the state of Israel and raise awareness about global and international opinion,” said Rima Hassan.
In early May, a ship, the “conscience”, with which the coalition of the flotilla for freedom hoped to recover the supporters, including Greta Thunberg, in Malta, then going to Gaza, had been damaged. The activists said they suspected an attack against Israeli drones.
The humanitarian situation is disastrous in the Gaza Strip, where “100% of the population” is “threatened with the famine”, according to the UN, after a blockade of more than two months of help, which Israel has only partially relaxed last week.
