A Russian missile attack on the city of Zaporizhia on Friday night killed at least one person, damaged industrial infrastructure and left more than 120 homes without heat.
According to preliminary information, “the attacks on Friday in Zaporija claimed the life of a civilian,” Anatoly Kurtev, secretary of the city council and interim president of the municipality, wrote on Telegram, quoted by Ukrainian agencies.
Meanwhile, the head of the Zaporizhia regional military administration, Oleksandr Staruj, indicated that the night bombardment left more than a hundred residential buildings in one of the city’s districts without heating.
“Missile explosions caused damage to central heating connections and the cessation of heating supply in 123 multi-story buildings with more than 17,000 people,” he added in a Telegram message.
He added that the emergency services and technical personnel were carrying out the necessary work and that 60 buildings have already been heated again.
The heating supply is expected to be fully restored by 23:00.
“Whatever arguments the Russian invaders use to hide their terrorist actions, they are in fact aimed at creating a humanitarian disaster,” Staruj said.
The military administration said in a statement that Russian forces had shelled civilian infrastructure in a total of 16 villages in the Zaporizhia region in the past 24 hours, with 33 reports of damage to homes and infrastructure.
These are the towns of Zaporijia, Zarichne, Chervone, Malynivka, Zaliznychne, Huliaipole, Kamianske, Pavlivka, Mali Shcherbaky, Dorozhnianka, Olhivske, Novoandriivka, Novodanylivka, Poltavka, Mala Tokmachka and Stepnohirsk, added the statement published in the Telegram quoted by Ukrinform.
The report adds that 85 people, including 23 children, were evacuated from the occupied territory on Friday.
