“Disastrous consequences”: Who calls to protect two of the last Gaza hospitals?

According to the UN Organization, Nasser and Amal hospitals work beyond their abilities, while the injured continue to go mass and that “there is” a serious shortage “of drugs and medical supplies in the Palestinian enclave.

The World Health Organization has appealed to the Israeli authorities for the “urgent protection” of the Al-Nasser Hospital and the Al-Aal Hospital in the Gaza Strip, in a message on the social network X.

Al-Nasser et al-Amal “are the last two public hospitals still active in Khan Younès (south of the note of the editor of the Palestinian territory), where the majority of the population currently lives. Without them, it will lose access to essential health services,” he warns of WHO.

The WHO, which “alerts to the collapse of the Gaza Strip Health System,” emphasizes that Al-Nsser, the most important reference hospital that is still an activity in Gaza and the Al-Aal hospital, is likely to become ineffective. “And the UN organization emphasizes that there is no longer an operational hospital in northern Gaza.

It is likely that the two hospitals do not work

According to WHO, the two care centers have not received the order to evacuate, but they are “inside or just outside the evacuation zone announced on June 2” by the Israeli authorities.

These informed the Gaza Ministry of Health “that the access routes that lead to the two hospitals will be blocked” and, therefore, will be “difficult or impossible” for nursing staff and new patients to access it.

“If the situation deteriorates more, it is likely that the two hospitals will become ineffective, due to movement, insecurity and inability of who and their partners to restore or transfer patients,” the message said.

According to the WHO, Nasser and Al Amal they work beyond their abilities, while the injured continue to go into mass and that there is “a serious shortage of medicines and medical supplies after 2 months of a total blockade, that the Israeli authorities only partially lifted it in very little humanitarian aid.

“Disastrous consequences for patients”

“The closure of hospitals would have disastrous consequences for patients who require surgical care, intensive care, blood transfusion services, cancer and dialysis care,” said.

And, according to the UN organization, the closure would result in a loss of 490 beds, which raises the total number of beds for the entire territory “less than 1,400 (40% less than before the beginning of the conflict), for the entire population of 2 million inhabitants.”

After almost 20 months of a devastating war, launched by the attack on Hamas on October 7, 2023 in Israel, the small Palestinian territory experienced one of the most serious humanitarian crises in the world, with a population exhausted by bombing, forced trips and lack of food.
