The French president, Emmanuel Macron, met this Saturday, June 14 with President Iranian Massaud Pezeshkian, asking him to “quickly return to the negotiating table” in the nuclear and exhort what the French “in Iran and in the region are” in any case directed. “
Israel and Iran continue their strike exchanges on Saturday, launched by an Israeli mass attack against Iranian military and nuclear sites launched on Friday.
Nuclear, a “serious” question
“My first message was to demand the immediate release of our compatriots Cécile Kohler and Jacques Paris, hostages of the Iranian regime in unacceptable conditions for more than three years,” added the French president in X.
“Given the greatest risk of destabilization for the entire region, I asked that our holdings and our nationals in Iran and in the region were not attacked in any way. I also asked for the greatest moderation to avoid climbing,” writes Emmanuel Macron.
“The question of Iranian nuclear is serious: it must be resolved through negotiation,” he said after having “resumption of the dialogue” the previous day. “So I invited President Pezeshkian to return to the negotiation table quickly to reach an agreement, the only possible way to calm the situation.”
Negotiations interrupted by strikes
The United States had initiated indirect negotiations in April with Tehran in its nuclear program.
A new cycle of negotiations for Oman was scheduled on Sunday to try to find an agreement that supervises the Iranian nuclear program, in exchange for the elevation of sanctions against Iran.
The United States said on Saturday with the hope of continuing negotiations. Tehran considered that it had no “sense” to keep the scheduled for Sunday.
Emmanuel Macron, who had multiplied the telephone interviews on Friday with the US President, the Israeli prime minister, the main leaders of the Gulf, Egypt and Jordan, as well as Europe, again maintained on Saturday with Donald Trump and King Abdallah II, said Elysée. He also exchanged with Lebanese president Joseph Aoun.
