Twelve people were killed on Sunday when their bus collided with a truck near the eastern Egyptian resort of Hurghada, the Health Ministry said.
This is the second deadly accident in less than 10 days in Egypt. On November 12, 20 people died when their minibus overturned in a canal in the Nile delta, in the north of the country.
On Sunday, “twelve people died and another thirty were injured and were transported to nearby hospitals,” their statement said.
An open investigation
The prosecutor’s office has opened an investigation to find out the causes and circumstances of the accident that occurred on the road that connects the cities of Ras Gharib and Hurghada, on the Red Sea, a judicial source has reported.
Traffic accidents are frequent in Egypt, where the roads are often poorly maintained and traffic regulations are not respected.
Officially, 7,000 people died in traffic accidents in 2021 in the country.
