Sunday, June 15, three hikers died in the mountains of Austria, beaten by lightning, reports Independent. Their bodies were found by helicopter rescue, near a road to an altitude of approximately 2,268 meters.
The victims, two brothers and the wife of one of the men, the three of sixty, went up to Mittagsspitze near the town of Flirsch, when the storm surprised them.
Difficult intervention due to climate
Without news of them, their loved ones launched the alert and a warning of disappearance was issued shortly before 7 PM according to Patrick Wechner, head of the alpine police operations, the rescue intervention became difficult in particular due to bad weather.
Despite this event, the Local Police said that this type of accident was “weird.” The authorities also urged hikers to show extreme caution and closely monitor the weather forecast before venturing in the mountains.
