The Ukrainian nuclear agency accused Russia on Sunday of bombing the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant, shortly after Moscow accused kyiv of attacking the site.

The director general of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, said today that there were “strong explosions” in the area of ​​the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant.

“The information is extremely worrying. The explosions occurred at the site of this large nuclear power plant, which is totally unacceptable,” Rafael Grossi warned in a statement.

Russia today accused Ukrainian forces of having carried out new bombardments against the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine, assuring that the radiation level remains “in line with the norm.”

“The kyiv regime does not stop provocations to create the threat of a disaster at the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant,” the largest in Europe and militarily occupied by Russia, the Russian Defense Ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, Ukrainian forces fired, on Saturday and today, more than two dozen “large-caliber projectiles” at the plant that exploded between power blocks number 4 and 5 and aimed at the roof of a “special building” located nearby. of these. .blocks, .

Russia, which has been carrying out an offensive in Ukraine since February 24, militarily occupies the territory in the center and Russian President Vladimir Putin has claimed its annexation, as well as that of four Ukrainian regions.

For several months, Moscow and kyiv accused each other of bombing the site, which was under Russian control but located not far from the front line.
