A Federal Court of American Appeals validated this Thursday, June 19, deployment of President Donald Trump of the National Guard in Los Angeles to face the demonstrations against his migration policy, despite the opposition of the Californian authorities.
“The fact that the President has not made the order of federalization directly ‘through’ of the governor of California does not limit his legal authority to call the National Guard,” wrote the three judges of the San Francisco Court in a unanimous sentence of 38 pages.
Donald Trump had the right to order the mobilization of 4,000 members of the National Guard for 60 days to “protect public officials” and federal buildings, judges decided. The US president welcomed the decision on Thursday night, a “great victory” according to him.
“Everywhere in the United States, if our cities and fellow citizens need protection, it depends on us to provide them if the state or local police are unable to, for any reason,” Donald Trump wrote in his social network of truth.
Conturbed by the Democratic governor of California, Gavin Newsom, a federal judge had illegal in the first instance last week the order granted by the president to deploy the National Guard. The magistrate had ordered at the same time that the control of this double guardianship reserve body was returned to the Democratic governor.
“The fight is not over,” Gavin Newsom reacted on Thursday. “We will continue our challenge to the authoritarian use of President Trump of American soldiers against citizens,” he published in X.
A first in 60 years through the Atlantic
The deployment of the National Guard, without the consent of the Governor of the State, who also has authority on this military reserve body, has been the first since 1965 in the United States.
A wave of muscle arrests of illegal immigrants by the Federal Immigration Police (ICE) resulted in a sometimes violent protest movement in the Californian megapole of Los Angeles, a democratic bastion.
Very often by the media worldwide and were broadcast largely on social networks, these manifestations and clashes, although limited and had not resulted in massive deaths or destruction, pushed Donald Trump to say several times that the angels submerged in chaos.
According to him, his decision to send to the Armed Forces made it possible to stabilize a situation that escaped local democratic authorities. The latter said on his side that everything was under control.
The protesters and incidents of Los Angeles have resulted in some other American cities. Donald Trump has fought against illegal immigration one of the main axes of his internal policy since his adhesion to power in January.
