Ukraine: No radiation emissions recorded after bombing of Zaporizhzhia power plant

After the bombardments around the nuclear power plant, “radiation levels” are normal, the International Atomic Energy Agency said in a press release published on Sunday night.

A reassuring statement. This Sunday night, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) explained in a press release published in English on its website that “radiation levels remained normal” and that no casualties were reported after the bombing of the plant. Zaporozhye nuclear power plant this weekend.

For several months, Moscow and Kyiv have accused each other of attacks on the site, near the front line. According to the IAEA, the shelling this weekend began on Saturday shortly before 6:00 p.m. and resumed on Sunday morning.

“The external power supply from the power plant, which was interrupted several times during the conflict, was also not affected,” the statement said.

“There was damage in quite delicate places”

However, the “repeated bombardments (…) damaged buildings, systems and equipment, some of the explosions having occurred near the reactors,” it can be read.

“There was damage in quite delicate places,” the IAEA headline explained on BFMTV two hours before the publication of the press release. He then indicated that the reactors have not been affected but “rather the area where the fresh and spent fuels are.”

“We hope to be able to do an inventory very early tomorrow (Monday) morning,” added Rafael Grossi, adding that inspectors could not go to the site this Sunday because the situation was too dangerous.

“Whoever it is, stop this madness!” He launched, insisting: “The people who do this know where they are hitting. It is absolutely deliberate, directed.”
