France sends its ambassador for the rights of LGBT+ people to the prohibited pride of Budapest

Jean-Marc Berthon will represent the French government this Saturday during the forbidden pride in Budapest, announced the ministers Aurore Bergé and Benjamin Haddad this Thursday.

A “support and commitment” signal. Ministers Aurore Bergé (Gender Equality) and Benjamin Haddad (Europe) indicate in a statement this Thursday, June 26 that the LGBT+People Rights Ambassador, Jean-Marc Berthon, will be present in Budapest this Saturday to represent the French government in Marche Des Pride.

If the police have prohibited it in Hungary, in the reasons for a recent Anti-LGBT+ law of the Viktor Orban nationalist government, the demonstration will take place, promised the Ecological City Council of Budapest, believing that such a municipal event did not require an official authorization.

“No conquest is irreversible”

“What is played in Hungary remembers a global reality: the rights of LGBT+ people are far from guaranteed and remain deeply fragile. No conquest is irreversible,” writes Aurore Bergé and Benjamin Haddad in their press release, judging that “everywhere, reactionists and fundamentalists are not found to the derivation of restrictions on restriction and expel.”

“What the fight can gain can be destroyed by inaction. Faced with this global threat, visibility, international solidarity and commitment are still more essential,” they add.

At the beginning of the week, the diplomatic and cultural representations of 33 countries published a statement of support for the Pride March of Budapest. Within the European Union, Italy, Croatia, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria were not one of the signatories.

Hungary warned his partners against a possible participation. “The legal situation is clear, pride is a manifestation prohibited by law,” wrote the Minister of Justice Bezson in a letter obtained Wednesday by AFP. “Those who participate there, therefore, there would be a crime,” he warns.

The Iliberal leader Viktor Orban has been hindering the rights of LGBT+ people for years in the name of “children’s protection.” He crossed a limit this year by having a law adopted in mid -March aimed at prohibiting any demonstration that violates the 2021 legislation that prohibits evoking with minors “homosexuality and change of sex.”
