“The threat will not make us capitular”: Hezbollah excludes “return arm” against Israel

Hezbollah rejected the idea of ”capitular” or returning weapons to Israel this Sunday. He cited several conditions so that it could take place and, in particular, the withdrawal “of the occupied territories” and the “liberation of the Lebanese prisoners.”

The head of Pro-Iranian Hezbollah in Lebanon said on Sunday, July 6, that his training, very weakened by a war with Israel, was not going to “capitular” or make his arms, while he was under pressure to disarm.

“The threat will not make us capitular (…) that we do not say today to soften its positions (…) make their weapons,” said Naïm Qassem in a televised speech transmitted in front of thousands of his followers gathered in the suburbs of southern Beirut, Hezbollah’s bastion, on the occasion of the religious shock of the OSJA.

His speech comes as an American emissary, Tom Barrack, is expected on Monday in Beirut, where Lebanese authorities must send their response to their request to disarm Shiite training by the end of the year, according to an official source that required anonymity.

Many conditions before disarmament

Naïm Qassem said that Israel must first apply the high fire agreement with Lebanon, “withdraw from the occupied territories, stop their assault (…), to free the Lebanese prisoners” and that the reconstruction of the areas devastated by the war that ended in November should begin.

At that time, “we will be ready for the second stage, which is to discuss the National Security and Defense Strategy” in Lebanon, a term that includes the question of Hezbollah, added.

Naïm Qassem happened to the charismatic head of Hezbollah Hassan Nasrallah, killed in an Israeli strike in the South suburbs of the Lebanese capital last September during the war that opposed the Shiite training to Israel.
