The French are urged to scrupulously follow the advice to the travelers of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in particular the recommendation not to go to Iran, insisted on Monday, July 7, the minister in charge of the French abroad.
“Each French must refer to the website of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where the information is objectively exposed, Claire,” said Laurent Saint-Martin, while a 18-year-old French young tourist, who is going through Iran, has been missing since June 16.
“I reassure you, consular protection is correct for all French (…) in a foreign country. But (…) if we often do not recommend going to countries, it is precisely not being at risk,” he said.
“A deliberate policy of taking hostages from Western”
The minister emphasized that the disappearance of Lennart Monterlos, whose bicycle trip in the world included a scenario in Iran, was “disturbing because Iran has a deliberate host policy of Western”, “an assumed policy.”
In a publication published on June 12, four days before his disappearance, the young tourist, passionate about sport, had explained that his passage through this country had “been the subject of animated debates” with whom they surrounded him.
The young man seemed to believe that Iran’s supposed danger was exaggerated. At the moment, the reasons for the disappearance are unknown: arrest, accident?
His disappearance occurred while Israel had launched strikes against Iranian nuclear sites. Recently, young man’s relatives have published a research notice on Instagram, which also has German nationality.
Before starting his trip, Lennart Monterlos had presented his project on a crowdfunding platform. He trusted to prepare since the end of 2023 “A one -year -old bicycle trip to discover the world, through Europe and Asia.” It had to be “a Césura” before its higher education.
