An explosion occurred this Monday at a chemical factory in northern China, announced an official media that did not advance a balance of human victims, but did material damage to surrounding buildings.
According to videos posted on social media, a fire broke out at the industrial site, releasing very dense gray smoke that formed a huge mushroom in the sky.
The human cost is not yet known
Other images show houses on the ground strewn with glass fragments, frightened people coming out of buildings or even window frames falling at the bottom of buildings, due to the explosion.
“Personnel were sent to the scene, the fire was extinguished and the number of victims is not yet known,” the Dahebao daily said on the Weibo social network, citing authorities.
According to residents interviewed by local media, the explosion occurred around 5:25 p.m. and people were injured by glass fragments. The factory, named Jiangyang, was previously hit by an explosion in September 2021, according to Dahebao.
Industrial accidents occur regularly in China, often due to poor compliance with safety regulations.
In March 2019, an explosion at a chemical factory in Yancheng, a city 260 kilometers north of Shanghai, killed 78 people and leveled homes for miles around.
But one of the most serious industrial accidents is the one that occurred in 2015 in Tianjin (north). A gigantic explosion at a chemical warehouse had killed at least 165 people in this large port city located 120 kilometers southeast of Beijing.
