The Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, said he was ready to negotiate a permanent fire in Gaza during a 60 -day truce, provided that the Palestinian territory is demilitarized, in a video broadcast on Thursday, July 10, with indirect negotiations with Hamas.
“At the beginning of this high fire (60 days), we will begin negotiations on the final end of the war,” said Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington, listing several conditions: “Hamas must leave their weapons, Gaza must be demilitarized, Hamas should no longer have military or governance.”
Fifth day of negotiations
“If this can be obtained through negotiation, the better. Otherwise, we will obtain it by other means, by the force of our heroic army,” he added.
These statements come on the fifth day of indirect negotiations in Doha between Israel and the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas for a high fire agreement and the release of hostages always retained in Gaza.
While the relatives of the hostages ask that everyone be released at the same time, Benjamin Netanyahu said it did not depend on Israel.
“A brutal terrorist organization”
“We are dealing with a brutal terrorist organization and we want to free everyone from once. But it is not always in our hands,” he said in his video.
Of the 251 people kidnapped during the attack on Hamas in Israel on October 7, 2023, at the origin of the war, 49 are still retained in Gaza, 27 of which were declared dead by the Israeli army.
