Twitter reactivates US far-right account

Twitter has reactivated the personal account of far-right US congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, who was banned in January for violating the social network’s policies on misinformation about covid-19.

The reincorporation of the Republican to the platform occurs after Elon Musk restored, over the weekend, the account of former United States President Donald Trump, who had been expelled after the attack on the Capitol, in Washington, on January 6, 2021 .

At the time, Twitter feared there would be an increase in posts inciting violence if Trump remained on the social network.

The former US head of state had already said that he would not return to the platform and until today he had not published anything on Twitter since his reincorporation, although he did not delete the account.

Musk apparently justified his decision to reactivate Trump’s account with unscientific research from the platform.

Previously, the new owner of the social network said it would not make major decisions about content or reactivation of banned accounts before establishing a “content moderation board.”

The businessman frequently expresses himself about the restrictions on Twitter.

Ahead of the midterms, Musk urged his “independent” Twitter followers to vote Republican.

However, Musk said he would not allow conspiracy theorist Alex Jones, who was banned in 2018 for abusive behavior, to return to Twitter.

“My firstborn died in my arms. I felt the last beat of his heart. I have no mercy on anyone who uses the death of children for profit, politics or fame,” the businessman wrote on Twitter on Sunday in response to requests from Jones reinstatement. .
