Paul Biya, president of Cameroon, 92, was a candidate for his succession this Sunday, July 13, through a press release published in X.
“I am a candidate for the presidential elections of October 12, 2025,” he wrote. The outgoing president could honor an eighth mandate in case of an election.
“I have the assurance that my determination to serve him is consistent with the acuity of the challenges we face,” the head of state continued in power since 1982.
The voices rise against Biya
The voices had been raised in recent weeks in Cameroon to ask the president of this central country in Africa to deliver, while others had reaffirmed their support to the Head of State.
Camp Biya recently experienced several defections with the presidential statement of candidacy of Issa Tchiroma Bakary and Bello Bouba Maïgari, both members of the Government and the fans of Paul Biya for a long time.
Maurice Kamto, more fierce to oppose the head of state, who arrived second during the presidential elections in 2018 and Cabral Libii, an important figure in the opposition, are also in the race for the presidential elections.
