Ukraine: Who is expected to be Iulia Svydenko becoming the future prime minister?

The Ukrainian president, Volodymyr Zelensky, chose on Monday, July 14 to appoint Iulia Svydenko, his Minister of the Economy as Prime Minister. Parliament will be governed on this proposal.

Ukraine had not changed the prime minister since the beginning of the Russian invasion at the end of February 2022, but Volodymyr Zelensky intends to remedy it. The Ukrainian president chose this Monday, July 14, called Ioulia Svydenko to this position. This appointment is subject to the approval of Parliament.

“We have discussed the concrete measures aimed at stimulating the economic potential of Ukraine, extending the support programs to the Ukrainians and increasing our national weapons production,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote in X.

“In the search for this objective, we began a transformation of the Executive Power in Ukraine,” he said, adding that he had proposed to Iulia Svyrydenko to lead the government and “considerably renew its operation.”

This 39 -year -old woman has so far held the position of Minister of the Economy. She had assumed the position only a few months before the beginning of the war.

Graduated in commerce and economy, this year was distinguished by playing a central role in the tormentous negotiations with Washington about the exploitation of the natural resources of Ukraine, including minerals.

The deep disagreements on this issue had almost caused a break between kyiv and its main military ally.

The agreement had been at the center of a discussion in the White House between Volodymyr Zelensky and the president of the United States, Donald Trump, in front of the cameras of many media and under the eyes of stunned journalists.

“The only one to carry out these negotiations”

But shortly after, Iulia Svydenko went to Washington to conclude the agreement, seen in Ukraine as a way of appeasing the US president and guaranteeing the continuous support of the United States.

“She was the key figure and the only one to carry out these negotiations. She managed to limit them to limit,” says Tymofii Mylovanov, former Minister of the Economy who worked with her.

Tymofii Mylovanov, which today directs the kyiv Economy School, maintains the memory of a “very effective” person, who knows how to persuade when avoiding unnecessary confrontations.

“She is a professional. She keeps her fresh,” he said.

At the time of formalization of the economic agreement, the United States had maintained doubts about the counterparts, in particular the security guarantees requested by Ukraine.

The current Ukrainian prime minister, Denys Chmyhal, held his position since March 2020, which made him the head of government that has served more time since the independence of the Moscow country in 1991, after the collapse of the Soviet Union.
