An 18 -year -old Hongkongais risks up to seven years in prison for labeling “seditious words” on the public wall of the bathroom, announced the Hong Kong police on Wednesday, July 23.
Graffiti encouraged hatred, contempt or disaffection with the Hong Kong government, authorities explained without specifying the record content.
The young man, an employee in part, who had just finished his secondary studies, appeared Wednesday before the court, accused of having committed “one or more acts having a seditious intention” and having caused material damage.
Repressed oppositions many times
It could be sentenced to a maximum sentence of seven years in prison for these acts committed between July 17 and 21, according to the Archive of the Court consulted by AFP.
The judge rejected the request for release of the accused and the case was postponed until August 19.
Since the introduction of two national security laws in 2020 and 2024, the opposition to the government of Hong Kong and China have been repressed many times.
Beijing had imposed that of 2020 after sometimes violent demonstrations in favor of democracy the previous year.
