The Ukrainian President, Volodymyr Zelensky, announced this Thursday, July 24, proposes a new bill to guarantee the “independence” of anti -corruption structures, after the protest excited by the adoption of a previous document that reduces its autonomy.
“I have just approved the text of a bill that guarantees true strengthening” of justice and security services and protects them “from any Russian influence or interference” while guaranteeing “the independence of anti -corruption agencies,” he announced in X. This new document “will be presented today to the Ukrainian Parliament,” he added.
This announcement occurs two days after the vote of the Parliament of a new law that placed the National Office against Corruption (NABU) and the Office of the Anti -Corruption Prosecutor (SAP) under the direct authority of the Attorney General, appointed by the President.
Criticism avalanche
The document, immediately promulgated by the Head of State, caused the Wrath of the EU, kyiv’s key support to the Russian invasion and the first important manifestations since the beginning of the war in 2022.
Some Ukrainian analysts have warned that this text will probably block the membership of Ukraine in the European Union, or even potentially lead to a reduction in international and crucial financial aid for its ability to defend itself.
Taken by this avalanche of criticism, Volodymyr Zelensky, who first defended the importance of this law and accused the anti -corruption agencies of ineffectiveness, seems to have reversed. The new bill that “guarantees the independence of Nabu and SAP” will be presented today to the Ukrainian Parliament, “he said in X, without revealing its content.
“It is important that we were united”, “that we resume the position of all Ukrainians and that we are grateful to all who support Ukraine,” Volodymyr Zelensky said.
