An “amazement” for Algeria. The country reacted in a statement this Thursday, July 24, the decision of the Interior Minister Bruno Retailleau to restrict the conditions of movement in France of a “a certain number of Algerian dignitaries”, after the refusal of Algiers to resume 120 nationals under the obligation to abandon the French territory (OQTF).
“This measure constitutes serious damage to the proper functioning of the Algerian diplomatic mission in France, as well as a manifest violation of the provisions of the Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations”, Delators Algeria.
In response to this announcement, the country has decided to “apply the principle of reciprocity” with rigor and without delay.
Algiers ready to seize the United Nations
The Algerian Ministry of Foreign Affairs states, after exchanges with its French counterpart to “ask for clarifications” that this measure was “taken by the French Interior Ministry, without the knowledge of the Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs.”
“In total opacity and without a less official notification, as they want the basic rules of diplomatic practice,” Algel denounces.
In this context, Algeria reserves the right to resort to “all appropriate legal routes, including the United Nations reference.”
Bruno Retailleau’s decision was announced by the government spokesman on Wednesday, July 23 in the report of the Council of Ministers, not to mention the date on which this measure would apply.
“It did not escape you that the Interior Minister was increasingly firm arrangements in front of Algerian diplomacy,” said Sophie Primas.
