Donald Trump said Friday, July 25 that Hamas “did not want to agree” after the failure of the negotiations for a high fire in the Gaza Strip, and wanted to “die”, saying that Israel “ends the work.”
“Hamas really didn’t want to conclude an agreement. I think they want to die. And it is very, very serious,” the US president told the White House press shortly before his departure to Scotland.
49 still hostages of Hamas, 27 declared dead
“We reach a point where we will have to finish the work,” he said, emphasizing that the Palestinian Islamist movement did not want to conclude an agreement because “they know what is happening after having recovered the last hostages.”
“I told you (…), it will be very difficult for Hamas to conclude an agreement, because it will lose its shield, its coverage,” the US president continued, saying they are “hunted.”
Of the 251 people kidnapped on October 7, 2023 by Hamas, 49 are still hostage in Gaza, 27 of which were declared dead by the Army.
The previous day, the American emissary Steve Witkoff had acted the failure of the conversations made in Doha Bajo Qatari, American mediation and Egyptian, and announced the withdrawal of consultation with the American team, questioning the good faith of Hamas. An official of the Islamist movement, Bassem Naïm, accused Steve Witkoff for reversion.
“The negative statements of the American emissary Witkoff are completely against the context in which the last cycle of negotiations took place, and he knows perfectly. They are part of a logic of support to the Israeli position,” he explains.
The failure of these negotiations increases fears for the destiny of the Palestinian population of Gaza, while humanitarian organizations alerted Friday about a flambrition of child malnutrition in the territory, devastated by more than 21 months of war.
