A terrible discovery. After the death of their son Timothy Garlington on November 15, 2023, Americans Lawrence and Abbey Butler mistakenly received their brain from funeral companies. They decided to file a complaint on Thursday, July 24, especially reports NBC News.
After the disappearance of their son, this American couple contacted funeral companies Southern Creations & Funerals and Nix & Nix to organize the funeral. The first, based in Georgia where his son died, was responsible for transporting the body and personal objects of the latter to the second, closer to his parents, five days after death.
But that it was not Lawrence’s surprise and Abbey Butler when they discover that the box that is supposed to contain the personal effects of his son actually protected his brain.
A remarkable smell
As reported by American Media NBC News, the two parents filed a complaint against the two funeral societies for “negligence in their treatment of human remains”, as well as “intentional inflicence of emotional anguish.”
Once in possession of that box, Butler noticed a white box without marking. In their complaint, the couple said they have noticed a smell inside the box and a liquid leak in their car. Then they discovered their child’s brain and brain substance inside the box.
“We trust them to do what had to be done correctly. Nothing was done as it should be,” says Abbey Butler at a press conference.
“I got into my car and felt the smell of death. I pray that it never happens again,” said the mother of the deceased at a press conference.
“A film scene”
According to the owner of the Nix & Nix funeral directors, his team was unaware of the presence of brain material in the box, and added that his employees thought that the box contained personal effects, without seeing what it contained.
“This incident should not take place for any other family. This nightmare scene is a film. […] To date, my clients do not know if the remains of their child, contained in the box, have been buried with the body, “said Chris Stewart, one of the two parents’ lawyers.
Even so, according to the account made by the owner of the funeral bombs to the US media, the latter added that when another funeral home sends a body, everything must be intact. Before adding that he was “bleached” for the investigation of the State Investigation Commission.
Contacted by NBC News, a spokesman for the State Department of Pennsylvania said he could not “confirm or deny” if a licensee was or had been subject to an investigation.
At the moment, there are many questions to clarify, it indicates that the lawyer, the first to know why the deceased’s brain was separated from his body.
