A White House spokesman on Tuesday expressed the “deep concern” of the United States over the “advancement” of Iran’s nuclear program, but did not confirm that Iran has actually started producing 60% enriched uranium at its Fordo plant.
“We continue to observe with a deep concern not only the progression of Iran’s nuclear program but also the constant amélioration of leurs capacités in terms of ballistic missiles”, to dit John Kirby, porte-parole du Conseil de Sécurité nationale de the White House.
“We are going to make sure that the (American) president has all the options” necessary, he added.
Stalled negotiations
President Joe Biden “still believes that the best way to get there is through diplomacy,” but “we’re nowhere near that,” he said.
“We would very much prefer that, but we are too far from that,” the adviser said again, referring to deadlocked negotiations to try to revive a major 2015 international deal on Iranian nuclear power.
Iran has begun producing 60% enriched uranium at the Fordo plant, a rate well above the 3.67% threshold set by the international agreement in question, the Isna agency announced on Tuesday. This underground factory located 180 kilometers south of Tehran had recently been redesigned for greater efficiency.
