Dmytro Kouleba, head of Ukrainian diplomacy, warned the European Union on Tuesday against “weariness” in the face of the war in Ukraine, urging the adoption of a new package of sanctions against Moscow.
“I call on my colleagues in the EU” to “dismiss any doubts” and any “fatigue” and “finalize as soon as possible the ninth sanctions package” which is “long overdue”, he declared during an online press conference.
“If we Ukrainians are not tired, the rest of Europe has no moral or political right to get tired,” insisted the minister.
In particular, he demanded that the public nuclear operator Rosatom be sanctioned for its role in the Russian occupation of Ukraine’s Zaporojjia nuclear power plant, the largest in Europe.
Stop the Russian military industry
Dmytro Kouleba also stressed the importance of sanctions in “holding back” the Russian military industry.
“Russia’s ability to produce new missiles must be destroyed to prevent them from having additional resources to kill Ukrainians, destroy Ukrainian cities and the energy system,” he argued.
As Moscow has been pounding the country’s energy infrastructure for weeks, plunging millions of Ukrainian homes into darkness, it has once again called on the West to increase its deliveries of weapons, particularly air defense systems.
