Two Russian comedians trick the Polish president by posing as Emmanuel Macron

The two comedians made Andrzej Duda react to a missile explosion in eastern Poland.

President Andrzej Duda’s office confirmed on Tuesday that he had a phone interview with a “fake” Emmanuel Macron, as an audio recording claimed by two Russian comedians used to fooling personalities circulated online. The two people are said to have links to the Russian security services.

“After the missile explosion in Przewodow, during a series of talks with heads of state and government, a call took place with a person claiming to be French President Emmanuel Macron,” the Andrzej Duda office tweeted.

“Mr. Duda realized from the way the conversation was conducted (…) that it was perhaps a scam attempt and hung up,” the Polish presidency said.

Asked if they were behind the call, the Russian comedians from ‘Vovan and Lexus’ confirmed that ‘we said that on all social networks (…) And we uploaded a video’.

Nuclear power plants and NATO Article 5 are mentioned

In this recording from last Tuesday, a person with a thick Russian accent claims to be the French president. The two heads of state discuss a missile explosion in Poland that occurred hours earlier and killed two people.

According to Warsaw, the explosion was likely caused by a Ukrainian air defense missile, although initial speculation pointed the finger at Russia. “Oh hello Emmanuel… Thank you for your call. The situation is very difficult, as you probably know,” Andrzej Duda said in this recording.

He said the explosion was caused by a missile “launched by who knows who” and that he was awaiting the results of the investigation.

“Emmanuel, believe me, I am extremely careful. I don’t blame the Russians (…) I don’t want a war with Russia,” he added.

Andrzej Duda also said that Poland was not considering invoking Article 5 of the NATO treaty, which obliges member states to come to the aid of one of them in the event of an attack.

The Polish president was also asked about Russian speculation that Ukraine was preparing to use dirty bombs.

“I am more afraid of some problems with the nuclear power plants in Ukraine (…) I am more afraid of the nuclear disaster,” he replied.

hoax habituals

The Russian comedians posted the seven and a half minute appeal on their page on the Russian video platform Rutube, the equivalent of YouTube.

The duo, whose real names are Vladimir Kuznetsov and Alexei Stolyarov, have a habit of fooling politicians and pop stars with prank calls.

His previous victims include Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, pop icon Elton John, Prince Harry. President Duda has also been the victim of his deception, thinking that he spoke about the head of the UN, Antonio Guterres, in 2020.
