The report of the torrential rains that hit Beijing rose to 44 dead and nine missing, most deaths deplored in an establishment for the elderly, authorities announced on Thursday, July 31.
Part of northern China, especially the capital, has been beaten in recent days due to mortal floods that have forced tens of thousands of inhabitants to flee from their home.
According to the last evaluation established on Thursday at noon, “44 people died and nine missing,” Xia Linmao, a senior municipality, said at a press conference. “Between July 23 and 29, Beijing suffered an extreme precipitation,” he added, added that they had caused “significant human losses”, including 31 deaths registered in an establishment for the elderly.
The Communist Party recognizes “Fallas”
“Our emergency plans included failures. Our understanding of extreme climatic phenomena is insufficient,” said Yu Weiguo, head of the Chinese Communist Party in Miyun’s hard district, during a press conference.
“This painful lesson woke us up: placing people in the foreground, human life above all, is not just a simple slogan,” he continued.
Natural disasters are common in China, especially during the summer, when certain regions are overwhelmed by torrential rains, while others are in drought control.
