Large protests broke out on Wednesday at China’s largest iPhone manufacturing plant, owned by Taiwanese subcontractor Foxconn, according to videos and photos posted on social media sites Weibo and Twitter.
The footage notably shows a crowd of workers marching down a street, some facing a line of people in white full-body suits and riot police. The factory is located in Zhengzhou, central Henan province.
In early November, the Chinese authorities had decreed the containment of the area around the factory, after the discovery of an outbreak of Covid-19 cases in the industrial estate.
