An Israeli extreme minister prayed on the esplanade of mosques in East Jerusalem, a “dangerous climb” denounced

The Palestinian authority denounced “a dangerous escalation” after the prayer made by Israeli Minister Itamar Ben Gvir in the Espland of the Mosques, a territory occupied and attached to Israel, this Sunday, August 3.

The Israeli minister of the extreme right, Itamar Ben Gvir, was early on the highly sensitive site of the splanade of Mosques in East Jerusalem, an occupied sector attached by Israel, to pray, this Sunday, August 3.

Third Sacred Place of Islam, the esplanade, built on the ruins of the second Jewish temple destroyed in the year 70 by the Romans, is a dust manufacturer where the slightest incident can degenerate to the point of lighting the region. For the Jews, it is the temple of Mount Du, the most sacred place of Judaism.

Itamar Ben Gir, Minister of National Security, one of the most radicals of the government’s coalition and accustomed to provocations, published in the morning on social networks a video that shows him a little earlier in the esplanade of mosques, a visit usually seen as a provocation of the Muslim world and in clear rape of the status quo in sacred places.

More and more provocations

“In the same way that we have shown that it is possible to exercise our sovereignty on the mountain of the temple, it is also possible to ‘conquer the entire gaza strip’ and ‘encourage voluntary emigration,” said the minister in this video.

“This is the answer that we must give to the atrocious videos published by Hamas,” said the minister, referring to the videos, published in the last three days, of Israeli hostages demacred in the hands of Hamas in the Gaza Strip.

Under a status quo decreed after the conquest of East Jerusalem in Israel in 1967, non -Muslims can go to the esplanade at specific times, without praying, but this rule is increasingly frequent for a growing number of nationalist Jews.

During the day, other images were transmitted on social networks, showing Mr. Ben Gvir pronouncing a traditional Jewish prayer, in the company of some of his supporters and under the eyes of the Israeli police.

“Fire oil”

According to the Times of Israel, the minister “directed a group of faithful Jews in prayer to the summit of the Mount of the Temple this Sunday, while the day of the fast of Ticha Beav was marked.” This day of fasting and mourning in the Hebrew calendar commemorates the destruction of the two temples of Jerusalem.

The left newspaper of Haaretz described this act of “provocation”, believing that the minister of distant “burned oil.” The Office of Prime Minister Netanyahu reacted in the process to ensure that “Israel’s policy to maintain the status quo in the temple of Mount Du has not changed and will remain unchanged.”

Already in 2024, the Minister of Far had prayed in the company of another 3,000 faithful in the esplanade of the mosques. The UN, through a spokesman for the Secretary General, had lamented “an unnecessary provocation.”

Convictions in the Middle East

Jordan, who manages the esplanade but whose entry points have been controlled by Israel since the capture of Jerusalem East in 1967, condemned “the practices of this extremist minister” that “do not question the fact that Jerusalem this is an occupied city.”

Saudi Arabia has also “firmly condemned the repeated provocations of members of the Israeli occupation government against the Santa Al Aqsa Mosque”, denouncing practices that “feed the conflict in the region” and “compromise peace efforts.”

The Palestinian authority, through its spokesman, condemned a “dangerous escalation”, while Hamas punished this “mass incursion of settlers, a criminal escalation and a continuous continuous aggression against our people, their land and their sacred sites.”

The images transmitted by the Jordan Waqf Foundation, which manages the esplanade daily, show dozens of faithful Jews who penetrate the esplanade, singing and hitting in their hands.
