A judge of the Supreme Court of Brazil ordered on Monday, August 4, the residence of former President Jair Bolsonaro on Monday, August 4 for breach of a prohibition of expression in social networks linked to his trial for a coup attempt.
In a judicial document consulted by the AFP, Judge Alexandre de Moraes denounces a “breach repeated with the measures imposed” in the former president of the extreme right. In question, according to the magistrate: interventions of Jair Bolsonaro transmitted by his camp on social networks during the demonstrations on Sunday throughout the country.
According to Judge Alexandre de Moraes, the former leader from afar did not comply with the restrictive orders imposed in July, including prohibitions to contact foreign officials or use social networks.
Accused of promoting Donald Trump’s interference
A representative of Jair Bolsonaro confirmed the house arrest and other measures announced on Monday. Alexandre de Moraes also banned Jair Bolsonaro to receive any visit, with the exception of his lawyers and people who have received authorization from the Supreme Court, and use any mobile phone, directly or through a third party.
These new restrictions are imposed after Jair Bolsonaro was accused of promoting Donald Trump’s interference, of which the former Brazilian leader said in the past as admirer.
The White House Chief recently linked the new American customs tasks with Brazilian products, taken last month to 50%, at Jair Bolsonaro’s trial, denouncing a “witch hunt.”
