The former president of the United States, Donald Trump, requested this Wednesday that a federal court in Florida hand over the original version of the FBI statement that led to the search warrant for his mansion in Mar-a-Lago.
“The plaintiff must receive a redacted copy of the search warrant statement so that these issues can be decided by the Court,” read a motion filed in court for the Southern District of Florida, seen by the agency. EFE.
Among the arguments presented by Trump’s lawyers is the review of the “raw” declaration to verify whether the procedure violated the Fourth Amendment of the US Constitution.
“Courts in this and other judicial districts have recognized that a person who has been the subject of a search has an even greater right to court records than the general public,” the motion reads.
The document also argues that the original statement is all the more necessary in this case “given the extraordinary circumstances here, which involve a marked departure from the way other presidents have been treated.”
A version of the statement was made public in late August after the US media requested its publication.
Earlier that month, as part of an open investigation into Trump, FBI agents searched the former head of state’s Mar-a-Lago facility, his residence in Palm Beach, Florida, and found a significant number of documents, some of which were them with tags. that says “Top Secret”, “Secret” or “Confidential”.
The former Republican president (2017-2021) responded with a lawsuit in Palm Beach against the Justice Department, a case that fell to Aileen Cannon, a judge appointed by Trump while he was in the White House.
Cannon agreed to Trump’s request that an independent expert verify the official documents taken from his residence, a task that will be carried out by veteran federal judge Raymond Dearie.
Last Friday, US Attorney General Marrick Garland announced the appointment of a special counsel to investigate former President Donald Trump for his possible role in the attack on the Capitol, as well as classified documents found on Mar-to- lake.
