The main European leaders requested on Sunday to have pressure on Russia to obtain peace and reiterated their support for Ukraine, before the summit announced between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump, who makes kyiv fear an agreement to his coast.
The Russian and American presidents must meet on August 15 in Alaska, in the United States, in the context of US President’s efforts to find an exit from the conflict that Russia caused in February 2022. This long -awaited meeting will take place without the Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, who continues to demand that he participate.
“Any decision that would be made against us, any decision that would be made without Ukraine, would be a decision against peace,” said Mr. Zelensky on social networks, and added that “the Ukrainians will not abandon their land to the occupants.”
“There must be an honest end to this war, and it is up to Russia to end the war that began,” he insisted on Ukrainian president on Saturday night, in his daily speech before the population. The Russian army currently controls approximately 20% of the Ukrainian territory.
“Active diplomacy”
During a telephone conversation with the British Prime Minister, Keir Starmer, on Saturday, Volodymyr Zelensky also urged his European allies to take “clear measures” to define a common approach, while the latter are also fired from the conversations.
During the night from Saturday to Sunday, the main European leaders said they were convinced that “only an approach that combines active diplomacy, support for Ukraine and the pressure on the Russian Federation” could succeed.

“The Peace path in Ukraine cannot be drawn without Ukraine,” they added remembering their attachment “to the principle that international borders should not be modified by force” and specify that “the current contact line (front line) should be the starting point for negotiations.”
Trump’s initiative caused intense diplomatic activity. The Ukrainian president had telephone exchanges with Emmanuel Macron and the head of the Spanish Government Pedro Sánchez.
British Foreign Minister David Lammy, on the other hand, received the US vice president JD Vance, head of the Ukrainian administration and former Ukrainian Defense Minister Roustem Oumerov, as well as European security advisors to “discuss the next stages towards peace in Ukraine”
The Brazilian president, Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, had a telephone bag with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“It’s complicated”
An agreement of the conflict will include exchanges of territories “for the benefit of each one,” said Donald Trump on Friday, without giving more details. “We are talking about a territory in which fights have disagree for more than three and a half years (…), it is complicated,” he said in the White House.
The US president, who has repeatedly promised to end the war in Ukraine, has spoken several times by phone with his Russian counterpart in recent months, but has not yet seen it in person since his return to business on January 20.
The Tête-à-Tête announced will be the first between the two men since June 2019 in Japan, one year after a summit in Helsinki, where Trump had a resolutely conciliatory tone with Mr. Putin.
The latter has not trained American floors since 2015, the presidency of Barack Obama.
The United States does not recognize the International Criminal Court (ICC), which issued an arrest warrant against Vladimir Putin due to the “illegal” transfer of Ukrainian children to Russia, Mr. Putin is not afraid of being arrested in this territory of the northwest end of the US continent, bought in 1867 of Russia.
Threatened strong places
After more than three years of struggle, Ukrainian and Russian positions are still irreconcilable.

The Russian forces, which have accelerated their progress in recent months, currently threaten two strong Ukrainian places in Donbass, Kostiantynynivka and Pokrovsk, as well as in the strategic city of Koupiansk, in the Kharkiv region.
